Elena Mezentseva has been devoting a lot of time to gender economics.
Her project "Human Vital Strategies in the Society in Transition", implemented
in 2000, was fundedby the "Higher School of Economics" (State University).
In 2000-2001, Elena Mezentseva received financial support for her project
"Gender Economics: International Experience and Examination of Russian
Practice" from Network Women's Program - Open Society Institute. She is
planning to use the project framework to conduct four seminars on the
following subjects: (1) Methodological Issues of Gender Economics in Societies
in Transition; (2) Techniques for Evaluating Female Unpaid Labor and Women's
Contribution to the GDP; (3) Social Policy and Gender: World Experience
and the Lessons for Russia; and (4) The Gender Aspect of Targeted Social
Assistance. The project is intended to provide material for a collective
monograph on gender economics. Elena Mezentseva, Olga Zdravomyslova (PhD
Philosophy) and Marina Arutyunyan (PhD Psychology) and fulfilled a study
of gender aspects of economic power in the family within the framework
of the collective project "Apropos the Diversity of Family Models: The
Spouses' Economic Contribution and Power in the Family", in 1999. It was
funded by the Research Support Scheme of the Open Society Institute.
