Elena Tiuriukanova, associate member of the MCGS together with Marina
Malysheva fulfilled a project "Institutional Provision of Policy in the
Field of Women's Migration against Trafficking in Women from Russia" (1999)
with the financial support of The Open Society Soros Foundation. This
study was implemented under the key principle: support legal migration
- combat trafficking and human rights violation. Women's labor migration
and trafficking in women from Russia are considered in context of more
general concept as cross-national transfer of women's reproductive labor.
On the basis of expert interviews the interactions of different factors
and actors in migration process are analyzed: policy of Russian state
and receiving countries, international organizations, social and gender
stereotypes in the field of migration, roots and consequences of flexibility,
informality and "illegality" in the labor migration sphere.
