" On the child molesting in families" (by Larissa Alexeeva) deals with an acute, though by far not a new – for contemporary Russia – problem of brutality towards children in families. The weight of the issue might be felt from statistical fact: every fourth family in Russia features violence towards children. Statistics, sociological survey results, comparisons with the situation, inter alia, in the USA serve as factual base. Child's developing personality is deformed not only by open physical or sexual but also by covert emotional and psychological violence. Yet, media, law enforcement agencies and public face the issue rather tolerantly. Rejection of state paternalism, and widespread non-interference into family life contribute to worsening of the situation, rising degree of its latency. Author suggests some answers to the question: who is guilty of violence to our children? Who and how has to maintain their interests? An alternative is sought to depriving parents of their rights.
