In her article the author traces the history of the 20th century investigations on gender both in Russia and abroad. She dwells on the terms female studies, feminist studies, women's studies, etc. and mentions that there is no unified approach as to the differentiating between female and gender studies. It's rather difficult to draw a borderline between these two trends. So she concludes that gender studies have been interdisciplinary, multi-componential studies investigating the problem of social gender from the view-point of history, linguistics, philosophy, etc. They also include all the aspects of man-and-woman relations both within the society and at home, in private life.
